Riposto is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Catania in the Italian region Sicily, located about 170 kilometres (110 mi) east of Palermo and about 25 kilometres (16 mi) northeast of Catania.

Lungomare di Riposto

During the fascist era Riposto was joined to Giarre under the name of Jonia, but separated again in 1945. The town is located on the Ionian Coast, and borders with the municipalities of Acireale, Giarre and Mascali. Its frazioni are Altarello, Archi, Carruba, Praiola, Quartirello and Torre Archirafi. It is one of the most historic and picturesque villages of the Etna. It is practically joined to the town of Giarre, where the train station. It has a large and modern marina called "Marina di Riposto" and a commercial port named "Port of Etna". The name comes from the area Riposto commercial vocation, which had given rise to a well-equipped place where deposit (for "store") for the barrels and goods to be shipped by sea. The history of Riposto has had in his relationship with the sea its main growth factor.
